This a configuration setting (something like a modern .xsession), not a
gfx bug.

Title:
When I login to Gnome in Oneiric, I get to see the old two panel
interface instead of gnome 3 or shell.

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I have Oneiric installed and have gnome shell installed as well. I
have Dell 64 bit laptop with a Nvidia GeForce GT 540 graphics card.
However, whenever I login to gnome instead of Unity, I get to see the
old style two panel gnome environment. As I understand, I should be
  getting the Gnome 3 interface.

Currently, I have disabled the proprietary Nvidia drivers because if I
enable it, then I will not be able to login into Ubuntu. The GUI gets
stuck with the proprietary drivers enabled.
