The dock is simply not connected to the igfx. This is a hybrid laptop
and you need both GPUs to drive all outputs.

Bug description:
  Using Lenovo T420, Ubuntu 11.10, 64bit and Lenovo MiniDock station.
  The VGA works when not in the docking station, connected directly to
  the laptop, but neither the VGA or the DVI works when laptop is
  connected to the docking station.  The laptop has an integrated VGA
  port for an external monitor.  The MiniDock has both a VGA & DVI port
  for an external monitor.
