Hopefully someone from ~canonical-hwe-team (the guys that made the sputnik kernel with Sputnik's touchpad driver) will notice this bug (and maybe reassign it, because it's not a bug in synaptics).
Palm detection in CyPS/2 Cypress Trackpad's driver doesn't seem to work (maybe it's not implemented yet), because I tried turning it on via xinput set-prop "CyPS/2 Cypress Trackpad" "Synaptics Palm Detection" 1, but it didn't help (I can always open the dash by pressing my thumb(print) against the trackpad) . I added ~kamalmostafa (I think he worked on the Cypress touchpad driver) as a subscriber to this bug (I appologize if this isn't the correct way to ping Ubuntu devs). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1092623 Title: touchpad multipoint touching opens Unity Dash Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On a Dell 15z with a Cypress touchpad real work is almost impossible because the inevitable palm touch on the pad opens the Unity Dash. synclient reveals that the palm touch is registered as a 3-point touch, which is consistent with the observation that a clean 3 finger touch does in fact open the dash. Given that it is virtually impossible to avoid brushing the top corners of the touchpad, having the Dash shoved in your face over and over again is a real problem. Using the syndaemon without the "-t" option to disable mouse movement during typing also kills the multi-touch behaviour, but this is not a real fix because the latency in mouse movements it introduces is about as bad as the problem is partially solves. Only partially because if you pause to think during typing you are likely punished with a Dash in your face as you go to resume typing.
