Title:
Gedit deletes existing folder to save a file

Status in “gedit” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in “gedit” source package in Hardy:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gedit

  Ubuntu 8.04
  gedit 2.22.3-0ubuntu1

When saving a new (or existing) file over a sftp mount the "Save
As..." dialog popped up, I clicked the mounted drive in the left
navigation and typed in the full path to a folder (without a trailing
slash) in the "Name" field and hit enter. I expected the dialog to go
into that folder where I could see what files existed. Instead, the
existing folder was deleted and the new file saved in its place.

Here are the steps to reproduce it:
  1. Create a directory on the remote computer (ie. /home/robert/temp)
  2. Create a sftp mount to this remote computer on the local computer
  3. Open gedit on the local computer and save the empty file
  4. Click the mounted drive in the left navigation
  5. In the Name field of the "Save As..." dialog type /home/robert/temp
(without a trailing slash)

Gedit will simply delete the existing directory and save the file
(with the same name) in its place! It doesn't matter what content is
in the existing folder (I tested this by having existing files and
  folders inside the test folder).
