my system hangs on shutdown when using NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current) [Recommended] with Ubuntu 12.04. changing to NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (post-release updates) (version 173-updates) allows my computer to fully shut down. the problem destroyed my laptop monitor because the computer was overheating while in my laptop was closed (screen to keyboard) and in my laptop bag because it hadn't turned off.
