Title:
Group name "debian-transmission" for transmission-daemon is too long
Status in “transmission” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

I decided to run Transmission in headless mode using transmission-
daemon. While following an online guide I noticed that I was not being
added to the "debian-transmission" group that I was assigning the
download directories to. It took me a while but I noticed that when
looking at the group properties dialog box within "Users and Groups"
and in /etc/group that the name was truncated to just "debian-
transmiss".
You'll notice that this is 16 characters, which I believe is a limit
on many Unix-like systems for groupnames and it would appear to be
here too. On renaming the group I was able to successfully assign my
user to it. The original configuration by design is simply
"transmission" and I know it's probably a convention to prefix users
of this nature with debian upstream, but in this case it appears to be
causing trouble.
Thanks for reading this far and have a good evening (or day).
Cheers!
