Title:
  compiz using almost all CPU on system, even when nothing going on

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  On Ubuntu 12.10, updates applied - top shows compiz using between 300
  and 500% CPU (it is an 8 core AMD processor), and the system runs
  slower than it should. 8GB RAM. It is a fairly recent nvidia card
  (default nouveau drivers). lspci shows "NVIDIA Corporation Device 0fc6
  (rev a1)"

  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description:  Ubuntu 12.10
  Release:      12.10

  $ apt-cache policy compiz
  compiz:
    Installed: 1:0.9.8.4-0ubuntu2

  I don't care much about the desktop, I work on the kernel - but I really
would like to have compiz not use most of the CPU on the system.

  How do I fix or turn off compiz?
