Public bug reported:
Installing tomcat6 removed eclipse and eclipse dependancies. The
removal seems to be caused by dependancies of tomcat6: tomcat6 requires
tomcat6-common, which requires libtomcat6-java. It is this latter
package (libtomcat6-java) which removes eclipse, eclipse-jdt, eclipse-
pde, eclipse-platform, eclipse-platform-data, and libtomcat7-java. The
last removed package (libtomcat7-java) makes sense, but removal of
eclipse packages seems unwarranted.
Release: 12.10
Eclipse: 3.8.0~rc4-1ubuntu1
A brief summary of what happens:
sudo apt-get install tomcat6 tomcat6-admin tomcat6-common tomcat6-user
tomcat6-docs tomcat6-examples
installs the packages plus libtomcat6-java and removes eclipse eclipse-
jdt eclipse-pde eclipse-platform eclipse-platform-data
sudo apt-get install libtomcat6-java
installs the package and removes eclipse eclipse-jdt eclipse-pde
eclipse-platform eclipse-platform-data
Perhaps related:
sudo apt-get remove libtomcat7-java
removes libtomcat7-java AND eclipse eclipse-jdt eclipse-pde eclipse-
platform eclipse-platform-data
