This might be a duplicate of Bug 1100190. In any case, I confirmed it
is an issue in Ubuntu 4.0.1 build, but not in the upstream 4.0.2 build..
it appears that it might be fixed.

Title:
Cannot export pdf from LibreOffice Writer to a sftp location

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
In Ubuntu Raring, I cannot use LibreOffice Writer's "Export as PDF
..." feature (available from the File menu) to export a PDF to an sftp
  folder.

When I try, I see an error dialog like so:

  Error saving the document mydocument:
  Nonexistant file

When I click [OK] on that, I get another error dialog like so:

  Error saving the document mydocument:
  General Error.
  General input/output error.

This worked for me in Ubuntu Quantal and earlier versions. Now I have
to save to a local folder and manually copy the PDF over to the sftp
  folder.
