Ah, in which case this is "not a bug (tm)". We need extra plumbing between the X events and the media menu. At the moment there is no event generate by the media menu when the multimedia hotkey is pressed, so we can't pass the event in to the webapp.
This would be a cool feature though! I think this needs to be raised as a feature request against: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/indicator-backend but you should check with Lars and double check.
