This is certainly not caused by NetworkManager, we've had similar issues
before, they are usually caused by the pm-utils package. Regardless, it
is a bug in the driver if power management makes it lose connections or
unable to connect (thus I'm reassigning this to the linux package).

As a workaround, please try to remove or disable the following script: 
/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/wireless

Title:
  NetworkManager turn-on power managment of wireless

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I turn off the power managment of wireless network with the command:
  sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off
  after some minutes the power managment return to on and the connection to 
network failed.
  NetworkManager say that the password of wireless (WPA2) not correct but its 
yes.
  I success to connect to wireless only if I restart deamon of NetworkManager.

  I use Arch linux with Gnome.
  My network card is RaLink RT2500.
