I agree with you Max, and we shouldn't have to get used to it.

@Bilal Empathy and xchat are quite different.  Xchat is just an IRC
client and when you go there you expect IRC windows to be opened when
you join a particular room.  Empathy, on the other hand has a general
log in to all IM channels the user has defined and is not at that time
joining a particular room.  Maybe Empathy should defer logging in to IRC
servers until the user joins a room.

  Siliencing NickServ/ChanServ

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  When using Empathy for IRC, logging on brings up 'spammy' messages
  from the NickServ and ChanServ systems. It's very annoying to have two
  'non-chats' open up. I would like to file this as an annoyance and ask
  if there is any other way to have them treated (at least at startup)
