Unable to view videos in player only audio is coming.

Bug description:
Ubuntu Version: 10.10
Totem movie player: 2.32.0
Tried opening the video file but it shows GStreamer encountered general
stream error.
Tried installing Gnome media player. It lays the audio but not the video
Tried using the command sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
Still the same problem.
Please help.
