Title:
RME hdspm sound card not detected

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 10.04 the card is detected fine. In ubuntu 11.10 the card is
no longer detected. The maintainer of the hdspm driver tells me that
this should be fixed in the latest snapshot of the driver:

We've recently changed the detection code. It's already in the ALSA
tree, but Linus still has to pull it in.

You can either compile the snapshop alsa-driver:

      http://www.alsa-project.org/snapshot/

Alternatively, you can compile the hdspm module only:

      http://adi.loris.tv/hdspm-current.tar.gz

Note that this version requires the kernel sources somewhere, and you
  have to blacklist snd-hdspm:

  adi@foh:~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/local.conf
  blacklist snd_hdspm

If in doubt, go for the snapshot.

If nothing helps, file a bug report against your distribution and
include this e-mail, asking them to update the in-kernel hdspm module.

If you're used to git, you can also pull the entire tree from

      git://github.com/tiwai/sound.git
