*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 806248 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/806248
I have observed this bug to happen around the 25th day of uptime, so I believe
it to be the same bug as Bug #806248,
unity::TimeUtil::TimeDelta returns an int value which overflows after 24 days
of uptime.
I have found a workaround less horrible than a reboot: the shell
command: "sudo service lightdm restart" which allows the auto-login to
operate again, so a remote vnc access can be re-established.

Title:
unity launcher drawing almost completely blank
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Each time this bug has cropped up, the session has been running for
quite a while. I run an interactive session via VNC, as as such the
auto-hide for the launcher must be turned off. At some point, the
left-side launcher rectangle gets repeatedly drawn while interacting
with applications (the mouse is not positioned within the launcher
rectangle as this happens), and soon after, the left-side launcher
rectangle appears almost completely blank (only highlighted background
drawn there), with just the barest hint of what appears to be launcher
icon partially visible at the top.
Running "unity --reset" does not restore the launcher. Attempting to
log-out and log-in again doesn't work because auto-log-in doesn't
auto-log-in after a log-out. In this state the launcher cannot be
operated to start additional applications or restore visibility of
minimized windows. The only recovery I've been able to perform is a
system reboot.
This bug is made worse by three other longstanding problems:
1) Auto-hide of the launcher is broken under VNC, and
2) auto-log-in doesn't operate after a log-out, and
3) vino-server doesn't start until log-in/auto-log-in.
I'll try to submit these as additional bugs
A screen-shot exhibiting the sorry state of the display when the bug
occurs is attached.
