All worksheets that are saved on Excel format are enormous by size.
For example basic sheet (this is a phpExcel-class example)

saved with new name on local disk (xlsx): 190,3 kB
saved again on local disk (xls): 1,3 MB
saved again on local disk (ods): 13,1 kB
