The number "8", the "<" and ">", the "/" character and the eol char seem to be most affected. Changing the document's font does not correct the problem, but it may cause different characters to be substituted with boxes. My other printer, which is an HP P1215 inkjet (non-Postscript) works normally. The Laserjet works fine in Hardy. I tried copying the .ppd from hardy over the .ppd installed with Intrepid, but the problem remains. (note: subsequent testing indicates this para is incorrect. I had forgottent to restart CUPS. The Hardy .ppd does in fact correct the problem as noted below). If I set the Laserjet to use the generic Postscript driver I lose some control features, but what does print is correct and the problem does not manifest. To repeat the issue: open text editor and enter the string ***this is a printer system test 1234567890abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz/.,<>?*** print the document. The "8" character, the "/" character, the ">" character and the eol character will be represented by a hollow square. I don't see any equivalent in the Latin character set chart.
