Title:
Low resolution because of "Mirror screens" mode is selected by default

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Alpha 2 with today updates.

Using nouveau nvidia driver with GeForce 7600GT.
There are two monitors connected with different resolutions: 1280x1024 and
800x600 (DLP projector).

After first boot, checkbox "Mirror screens" is enabled by default, hence
resolution on both monitors is automatically set to 800x600.
Why we need "Mirror screen" enabled by default?
Why we need to choose lower resolution by default?
Isn't better to switch off second monitor or expand to it, configuring both
monitors to their native resolutions?
