You don't have to revert to old version.
In the new version, you should be able to change per table configuration
using GConf. The key name is "LookupTableOrientation".

Bug description:
My OS is ubuntu 13.04(Daily Build, AMD64).
I've set the candidates orientation as "Horizontal", but it didn't work. And
the input windown is still vertical!
