Public bug reported:
When using the Intel driver with SNA, there is obvious visual tearing
when playing videos with the VAAPI-enabled mplayer build that was
working without such problems on 12.10.
I suspect the cause to be SNA: When using UXA, the problem goes away; it
also disappears when using the XvPreferOverlay driver option together
with SNA. The TearFree option also works with SNA, but introduces very
visible juddering for not only video output, but also the whole Compiz
desktop (when moving windows etc).
Apart from the mentioned options, no X settings have been modified.
Ubuntu version: 13.04
Package version: 2:2.21.6-0ubuntu4
** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
