This happens with me, as well.

What's worse, sometimes the wireless network will *stay disconnected*
until I answer the dialog box!

That's really bad, for a PC that is oftentimes left unattended.

I can't reproduce this, though. It will only happen at the most
frustrating times, usually when I'm out of town and can't intervene.
I'll have to call in and ask somebody else to go hit the dialog box and
get the PC back on the air.

It would make my day if this nasty user interface flaw was fixed. There
should be a way to automatically dismiss this dialog box and have it
automatically attempt the connection again in the background.

Title:
Authorization dialog pops up if wifi network "disappears"

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Network-manager is set up to auto-connect to wireless network
(wpa/shared key). This works as expected.

If the network shuts down (just turn off the access-point), after a
couple of minutes, network-manager pops up an "Authorization required
by wireless network" dialog for the network that was just shut down.

This does not make any sense. It is not possible to authorize and
connect to a not existing network ;-)

To make things worse. If the network comes back up (turn on the access
point again), network-manager WILL connect again, as it should. But
  the dialog does not disapear.

We are using Ubuntu for a digital signage application. So if the wifi
network is flaky, the pop-up will emerge. And even if a connection is
made later, the pop-up will still be there in the middle of the
  screen.

  Expected behaviour:
   - Do not pop-up an authorization-dialog for a "disapearing" connection.

  Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop i386
  Various hardware.
