Title:
  ubuntu-13.04-desktop-amd64 freezes at startup

Status in X.Org X server:

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in Fedora:
  Unknown

Bug description:
  Hardware:
  HP envy 23:
  - Intel Core i7 3770s
  - 8 GB DDR3-1600
  - Radeon HD 7450A
  - Hard drive: 1 TB SATA
  - exact technical spec:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03683196&cc=ad&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001#N1445

  How to reproduce:
Start ubuntu with a live media ubuntu-13.04-desktop-amd64 on USB.
-> ubuntu is recognized by the EFI firmware and can be booted
-> grub is started and "Try ubuntu without installation" is selected
-> the screen turns purple; the ubuntu logo appears; and the five white point
are turning red one by one
-> the screen gets frozen with all five points being red. No login appears.
No GUI appears. The mouse can still be moved.

  Actions taken:
  <ctrl> + <alt> + F1 leads to a shell but X can not be restarted

  Further information:
  1. The same machine works ok on Windows 8
This means that it pretty sure, that this is not a hardware issue
  2. The same machine has similar problems with other ubuntu and fedora
releases:
  - ubuntu 12.04.02 LTS Live hangs always at starting up X and never gets to
the first "end-user-screen"
  - ubuntu 12.10 Live boots correctly and the system can be installed. However
also some very similar freezes occur.
  - fedora 18 has some very similar freezes

What can I do to fix or circumvent the bug?
What additional information is required and how can I generate this info?
