Crash on "open as layer..."

Bug description:
Binary package hint: gimp
I did not do anythign particular, just wanted to open another file as
a new layer. The file dialog opened, no directories/files were shown
and the mouse was busy for a few seconds. Then Gimp crashed and closed
all windows. [ubuntu edgy]
