Title:
will not open .dot template file, shows lots of random characters at
  top instead.

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Fresh install of raring, I tried to open a writing template and it
said it was necessary for jre to be installed.

I'm installing the recommended packages to see if it'll help. Previous
versions did not have this issue.

  Recommended packages:
    libreoffice-gcj libreoffice-filter-binfilter default-jre gcj-jre
    java-gcj-compat openjdk-6-jre openjdk-7-jre sun-java5-jre sun-java6-jre
    java5-runtime jre libreoffice-java-common libreoffice-base

terminal said that libreoffice-gcj was not available.

After installing recommended packages, the .dot file works just fine.

These extra packages weren't necessary for opening .dot files in
  previous versions.
