3) What is expected to happen in LibreOffice Writer via the Terminal:

-O example.rtf && lowriter --nologo example.rtf
is the file opens quickly and successfully.
4) What happens instead is it hangs LO. It opens via MS Word 2010
14.0.6112.5000 (32-bit).
WORKAROUND: Use AbiWord.
