Title:
If I have used sound, for example on a Java applet online...and I
close that and launch a media player like totem, I get no sound from
totem, I have to restart my computer to enable totem's sound.

Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: totem

basically it seems that by using an application (eg.java applet) that
uses sound and then switching to my media player (totem-xine) i dont
get sound, its as if the application i just used now "owns" the sound
and if i wish to use a media player (totem or rhythmbox) i have to
  restart the computer.
