For me it's fixed with my 3rd generation Intel processor with Intel HD graphics, but could be really bug #1188123.

Specifically, the way I usually trigger it was by doing a search inside Software Center for 'gedit' and then clicking the gedit search result and then clicking where it says More Info. At this point X crashes and I'm returned to the login screen. See also bug 1163886 where many people (including me at certain times) had trouble with Software Center crashing with the GNOME3 PPA on Raring (which included GTK 3.8). We haven't found the root cause for that yet and when Software Center crashed for me then it did not take down X too.
