zombee, the file you posted in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1122509/comments/7
is already corrupt, so this would not do. As well, if I posted the
picture
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1122509/comments/8
in a blank document, and saved it in docx, close, and reopen it does so
successfully.

What we are missing is the file that closes/opens successfully, that
when the next picture is added, and saved as docx demonstrates this
problem.

Title:
Images in .docx files replaced by "Read Error" message in Writer

Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
While creating a document in .docx format with attached .jpeg images,
the images are eventually replaced by "Read Error" messages.

  This affects LibreOffice-core. /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice.bin
  Version 3.6.2.2 (Build ID: 360m1(Build:2))
  1:3.6.2~rc2-0ubuntu4

This is present in Ubuntu release 12.10 on AMD64

I was attempting to create a Lab Notebook for a college course. The
document contained several pages and 10-15 .jpeg images. The document
appears normal as long as it is open for editing. Closing and
reopening the document at a later time resulted in all images being
replaced by "Read Error". I have experienced this with essentially
every document I attempt to attach images to in the past year.
