Title:
Jockey does not pick up on new broadcom STA driver
Status in “jockey” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
On a 12.04.1 system (3.2 kernel) with full updates, I needed to also
install the Broadcom STA (bcmwl) driver. I tried via Jockey, the
preferred method for Precise and failed because jockey does not pick
up the new bmcwl-kernel-source driver package from the restricted
updates.
I had to manually install the package via apt-get to get the driver
loaded as Jockey refused to pick it up, even after updating the db a
couple times.
here's the relevant package info from apt-cache:
ubuntu@201206-11393:~$ apt-cache policy bcmwl-kernel-source
bcmwl-kernel-source

This is the output of jockey-text before I manually installed the STA driver:
ubuntu@201206-11393:~$ jockey-text -l
xorg:fglrx - ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (Proprietary,
Disabled, Not in use)
xorg:fglrx_updates - ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (post-release
updates) (Proprietary, Disabled, Not in use)
I've also attached a screenshot of jockey-gtk showing the same thing.
AFTER I manually installed/enabled the STA driver, jockey now shows it
in jockey-text:
ubuntu@201206-11393:~$ jockey-text -l
kmod:wl - Broadcom STA wireless driver (Proprietary, Enabled, In use)
[auto-install]
xorg:fglrx - ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (Proprietary,
Disabled, Not in use)
xorg:fglrx_experimental_9 - ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver
(**experimental** beta) (Proprietary, Disabled, Not in use)
xorg:fglrx_updates - ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (post-release
updates) (Proprietary, Disabled, Not in use)
