Bug description:
Unity performs poorly on systems with limited CPU and GPU resources.
Examples are my Athlon Neo 1.6GHz/2GB/HD3200 notebook, and my wife's
dual core Pentium 3.0GHz/2GB/Geforce GT 210 system. Performance is
tolerable on other systems such as my Phenom X4 2.6GHz/4GB/Geforce
8800GT system and it's not noticeably laggy on my Phenom X6
3.3GHz/8GB/GeForce GTX 560Ti. Generally Unity 2D isn't any faster on
machines with limited CPU resources.
The biggest complaints relate to the time it takes to log in (15-30
seconds on my notebook), response times in application switching, and
degraded performance when running multiple programs. Overall
responsiveness of either (2D or 3D) Unity interface compares very
poorly to Gnome 2.
