S3 savage support is not working in 12.10 and beyond

Bug description:
Recently installed 12.10 from both desktop / and alternate. Neither
one had working video support. In 12.04 the support works with
1:2.3.3-1ubuntu1. In 12.10 the version that is not working is
1:2.3.6-0ubuntu. Video doesn't work at all.
