I realize that this is an ancient one; but here's the answer:

On the LE1600, the audio is not connected to the "normal" ports of the
STAC9758.

Using alsamixer, set the following. There is no easy way to do this, as
I don't have a .store file; you have to navigate through the alsamixer
interface, and change each setting as listed:

set Master on
set Front on
set Master 31 (max volume)
set Front 31 (max volume)
set Capture 31 (max volume)
set Mic 31 (max volume)

set 'External Amplifier' off
set 'Mic Input Source' 'Mic1 Jack'
set 'Mic Select' 'Mic1'
set 'Rear Jack' 'Front Output'
set 'Mic1 Jack' 'Input/Disabled'
set 'LineIn Jack' 'Front Output'
set 'Line Input Source' 'Mute'
set 'Center/LFE Jack' 'Input/Disabled'
set 'Front Jack' 'Input/Disabled'
set 'Headphone Amp' 'Rear Jack'

This is confirmed to work with a Motion Computing Inc. LE1600; but it
may work with other tablet-based Compal systems.

V/r,
Mike
