Compiz is not expected to be using that memory... And neither should
chrome. I think you have a resource leak emanating from mesa (or at
least mesa on behalf of the client).

The easiest way to use perf (after installing it with apt-get install
linux-tools) is sudo perf top.

Title:
Unity performance issue on intel gpu

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The overall performance of my notebook feels worse when I Use unity.
After starting my computer everything seems to be fast, however in a
short time (in 1 hour, or less based on usage) things became slow, and
sometimes sluggish. A reboot seems to solve this. Suspend/resume seems
to make things slower a bit

For comparison I tried using XFCE for a while (compositing disabled).
The overall performance felt better. Webpages tend to scroll smoother,
intellij IDEA used to slow down (noticable lag when typing), I didn't
notice this behaviour while I used xfce, even when the IDE did some
  cpu intensive like rebuilding indexes.

When I use Unity the cpu usage of compiz grows over time even if
nothing happens on the screen, and I close every application.

Also my battery seems to drain faster
