Title:
Chat window doesn't close when pressing ESC once; Program crashes when
  pressing ESC twice

Status in “pidgin” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Usually the chat window should close when ESC is pressed. But occasionally
this doesn't work.
When the bug happens, pressing ESC leaves me a chat window "frame" without
any content (only grey window background, no text areas). Then I press ESC
again, the chat window "frame" disappears, and Pidgin crashes.

According to the output of 'pidgin --debug' (see below), there
  should've been a core-dump happened. If I understand this correctly, a
core-dump should trigger apport. But it didn't in this case.

  The accounts I have are:
  - WebQQ (pidgin-lwqq-unstable)
  - Lync (pidgin-sipe)
  - XMPP

Last few lines from the output of 'pidgin --debug':
