Amarnath, please make HPLIP trying pkexec (it is part of PolicyKit) to run programs as root. This is the standard program for this in Ubuntu (and probably also in several other distributions).

Following through the install process for a networked printer, I found that the UI wasn't able to authenticate properly. Although the printer identity could be properly detected from its IP address, every time the hp-plugin install asked me for a password and the install failed, claiming it could not authenticate, even when I used the proper password for my account. My user account is an sudoer and is also a member of lpadmin. A workaround was to run... sudo hp-setup ...which then caused the printer drivers to be installed properly, though it failed with a dbus error when setting up the printer as it was running within sudo. I then proceeded to add the printer through the regular UI (which was also able to autodetect the printer from its IP address, and match the already auto-downloaded driver). Subsequent runs of the HPLip Toolbox from my regular user account were able to proceed to installing the printer. I think this is a simple issue of not properly negotiating the authentication of the user, either via a printer group, or possibly to cups. Given all the amazing work which has gone into HPlip-gui it seems a shame to fail with such a simple bug.
