OK, I did so but ordinal numbers still don't receive the expected
treating. :(

  1) lsb_release -rd

  3) What is expected to happen in Writer in a blank document is when
  one types 1st, 2nd, or 3rd the text is converted to superscript

  O.S: Xubuntu 12.04 LTS. Reproducible in Lubuntu.
  I have installed the latest PPA version - 3.5.3-rc2-0ubuntu1~ppa2(precise), 
still happens.
