It was suggested I provide the following :

When I plug a TV into my HDMI port, only the computer screen background
shows on the TV, none of the action taking place on the laptop is shown on the
TV. and of course there is no sound (my original complaint.
I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, fully updated. These problems started
after the second last update. I am also providing the output of a
...wget.. suggeted in Launchpad question #192050
