Title:
  mouse pointer shows "wait" icon repetitively while leaking memory

Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  After some extended use (eg 2 hours of continuous use of filters,
  eraser, drawing, multiple layers) gimp starts leaking around 3MB
  memory per second. It allocates large amounts of memory repetitively
  with close to 1 second interval. Each time it does this the mouse
  pointer turns in to the "wait" symbol. It is still possible to use the
  program while this happens but the pointer constantly flickering is a
  bit distracting.

  However, if ignored, gimp will eventually consume all system memory in
  a very short amount of time. I have 16 GB and gimp has been OOM killed
  twice today after showing the behaviour for an extended period. The
  second time it happened while I was working in a different
  application.
