Received a new Tbird yesterday, that seems to have solved the issue for me (Thunderbird 1:24.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1)

I've just upgraded to T'bird 23.0 from the MozillaTeam PPA in order to have Lightning 2.5b2.
