Note that specifically the feature required a distro patch in chromium-
browser, which has now been dropped.

Title:
unity-chromium-extension does not support tabs in chromeless mode
anymore
Status in Chromium extension: Unity Integration:

Status in “unity-chromium-extension” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
This is an informational bug to document the removal of this feature
from the Unity chromium extension.
Tab support in chromeless mode was the ability to have multiple tabs
in webapps windows. The feature has been dropped due to its
complexity, both technical and from an interface perspective.
As a background, the original chromeless feature, with integrated
tabs, was used to test the seamless integration of web applications
with the Unity Shell. The feature was only available for the Chromium
browser, and not for the Firefox browser. The experience gained with
that feature has helped us test its limits, and define better
solutions, like the webbrowser-app container.
