Public bug reported:

I have used this USB mic (part of a webcam) for years under linux and it
has worked fine. Some recent changes seem to have broken it, and it has
never worked under 13.04.

Note also that today when I decided to try to report the bug the
behavior was a little different than in the past. I'm not sure why the
difference. Right now if I activate the device in pavucontrol, it
doesn't show up as a possible input device. A while ago if I activated
the device it *would* show up in pavucontrol and it would record sound
for a short time, perhaps as long as 1 minute, and then the device would
go dead. I could see it still listed in pavucontrol but the activity
bar would show a constant low input level rather than response to sound.
If I went to the configuration tab and turned the device off and then on
then it would work again for a brief time.

My other computer is using 12.04 and that is where it has worked just
fine for years. I ran an update there that updated everything sound
related, I noticed, and afterwords, the mic wouldn't work and exhibited
the same symptoms described above.

I tested with a different stand-alone usb mic and got the same symptoms
on both machines.
