I don't know about your comments re amixer not 0% - the balance bar in the gnome volume indicator is either hard left or hard right when i did the tests.
Nevertheless, the test recording i used has only recording on the left channel, or the right channel. At those times it shouldn't matter where the balance is set, nothing should come out of the opposite channel and indeed it works correctly when i run these tests on my asus laptop using the same external speakers. The correct operation should beÖ left channel recording plays with either balance left, or balance center but only from left speaker - there should be no right output right channel recording plays with either balance right, or balance center but only from right speaker - there should be no left output i am not sure what you want me to do with the code you put. i am new to linux -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1237805 Title: [GA-MA78GM-S2H, Realtek ALC889A, Green Line Out, Rear] left-right channels output to both sides Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: balance does work. when i move the balance to left, sound is louder on the left but can still be heard on right and vis-versa. i used the following test clip http://www.kozco.com/tech/LRMonoPhase4.wav left and right channels i hear on both sides, but the centre speaker test i only hear on the right channel.
