Well, I was able to fix this by opening gnome-tweak tool and setting the
"have file manager handle the desktop" to false. I have not investigated
this though.

  Nautilus will not open due 'draw-background' setting does not exist.

Bug description:
  After updating today Nautilus will not open. If I open  Gnome tweak
  tool and "uncheck" have file manager handle the desktop nautilus will
  open but theme and icons are not themed. Re-enable have file manager
  handle desktop, theme and icons are fine, but nautilus will not open
  again.
