If you install a gtk-3 theme with white text, (such as Adwaita Dark
http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/10/use-adwaita-dark-as-your-system-
theme )you end up with a very low contrast in the software center,
because it only uses theme suggestions for some widgets and colors.
