Step to reproduce bug: 1. Configure proxy values in Ubuntu (Network sytem settings). Manual method 2. Configure proxy in Firefox > Use system proxy settings 3. Type URL > www.google.es > Web page works 4. Type numeric URL > 173.194.41.223 (www.google.es) > loading........ Connection timeout! Notes. Reading similiar bug #1194841 > Idea!! remove /usr/lib/firefox/components/libmozgnome.so Then all is OK and numeric URL works Conclusion In my view, a problem exist between Firefox and Gnome.
