The problem disappeared when I switched to the nvidia propreitary driver. $ dpkg -l | grep nvidia rc libkwinnvidiahack4 4:4.10.5-0ubuntu0.2 amd64 library used by nvidia cards for the KDE window manager ii nvidia-304-updates 304.108-0ubuntu1 amd64 NVIDIA binary Xorg driver, kernel module and VDPAU library ii nvidia-common 1:0.2.83 amd64 transitional package for ubuntu-drivers-common ii nvidia-settings-304-updates 304.88-0ubuntu2 amd64 Tool for configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver
To me, this means that the problem is in the noveau driver since nothing else changed in my configuration. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1184451 Title: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have recently, re-installed fresh ubuntu 13.10 distribution release.
