Henri, you are indeed facing a different issue. Most likely incorrect credentials.
When system-ca-certs is on, wpa_supplicant complains of a self-signed certificate and stops right there. With a proper corresponding mesage of course. And this one definitely isn't that. I have seen this whenever I put in the wrong credentials.
