I should have checked more thoroughly before stating that modifying /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf was a successful workaround. I modified it, logged out, and found that Light Display Manager no longer showed up, and assumed that it fully removed the issue. In fact, when I start the computer up, it still shows up, and only on subsequent logouts does it disappear. This almost seems to imply that lightdm.conf is not being fully loaded or implemented prior to the first login.

I have found a manual workaround on a forum which involves adding user "lightdm" to the list of 'hidden-users' in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf, but this should still be addressed, perhaps through a software patch.
