I'd also be glad if this bug gets fixed – it's now over 10 years (!) in
the bug tracker. The appearance of the scrollbar even if it is not in
use at all is an absolutely pointless waste of screen space, especially
on wide screen and notebook monitors.

As a work-around you can at the moment use the Open Office fork Libre
Office where this issue got fixed (maybe some of their code could be
used to fix this in Open Office too).
