OK, "the reporter is confused" works for me.

Clipped from Xorg.0.log:

[    43.521] (==) RADEON(0): Depth 24, (--) framebuffer bpp 32
[    43.521] (II) RADEON(0): Pixel depth = 24 bits stored in 4 bytes (32 bpp
pixmaps)
[    43.521] (==) RADEON(0): Default visual is TrueColor
[    43.521] (==) RADEON(0): RGB weight 888
[    43.522] (II) RADEON(0): Using 8 bits per RGB (8 bit DAC)
[    43.522] (--) RADEON(0): Chipset: "ATI Radeon HD 4350" (ChipID = 0x954f)

So, that's a pretty low-end card, but I like the xscreensavers-extras
that appear to need 3D-acceleration, and I can't seem to get that
working.

NOTE: It was working under Ubuntu-13.04, but it's been an on-and-off.

Title:
  fglrx (not installed): fglrx kernel module failed to build

Status in “fglrx-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  NOT A UBUNTU PROBLEM, JUST MARK IT INVALID!
  Emailed suggestions welcome. !!!

  I'm trying the AMD Proprietary driver because nothing else seems to work
(either).
  I seem to have a Radeon 4000-series card. (A second-hand eMachines box).
  Every time I have tried to get xscreensavers-extra working, I create a
configuration that can't even start XWindows.

  This failure occurred while running dpkg --install amd-*.deb's from
  the AMD site.
